Karen Powell has been teaching Suzuki violin and viola in England for 24 years.  Originally from New York, she is married to David, a sub-principal cellist in the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and they have two sons Ben and Josh, both Suzuki violinists.  

Karen trained in the Suzuki method in both the USA, as part of her undergraduate degree, and with the British Suzuki Institute in England.  She has a master’s degree in Educational Psychology from Bristol University and runs seminars and workshops for parents and teachers on understanding individual learning styles from both the multi-sensory and personality points of view as well as workshops on Brain Kinestheology (Brain Gym).

Karen also is the music curriculum teacher at St. Gregory’s Catholic Primary School in Cheltenham where her responsibilities include teaching all 350+ children class music on a weekly basis.
